World Day of Palliative and Hospice Care
Every year on the second Saturday of October, the World Palliative and Hospice Day is celebrated as end-of-life care with the initiative and support of the World Hospice Palliative Care Alliance (WHPCA). Palliative care is a relatively new component of modern medicine in Ukraine, but recently it has been recognized as one of the integral components of the health care system, as the need for this type of medical care is constantly growing.
On October 11, 2024, an event for the World Day of Palliative and Hospice Care was held at the Professional Medical College of "Rivne Medical Academy" under the leadership of the head of the cyclic committee of professionally oriented disciplines of the therapeutic profile N. V. Karpovych, teachers M. O. Mohir and L. Ye. Chykaliuk.
The students of the 1st year of the "Nursing" department, group teacher T. V. Duzhych, visited the palliative department of the Rivne Regional Clinical Hospital named after Yu. Semeniuk. The head of the palliative department Martynchuk Bohdan Oleksandrovych and the senior nurse Lutsiuk Halyna Anatoliivna familiarized the students with the work of the department, which is focused on improving the quality of life of patients with incurable diseases.
Thanks to the professionalism, care, humanity, and empathy of the department's employees, patients can experience the most difficult moments with dignity. The students have the opportunity to participate in the professional mastery of the subject "Fundamentals of Nursing" during practical classes in the palliative care department, care for incurable patients, communication with relatives and relatives of patients.
