We are looking for a way to Ukraine's independence
These days, Ukraine celebrates two national holidays at once, which remind everyone of the history and depth of Ukraine's desire for independence.
So, on July 15 every year, on the Day of the Christening of Rus-Ukraine, we celebrate the Day of Ukrainian Statehood! This holiday is a symbol of the emergence of our country as a strong and free nation, ready to form and defend its own independence.
On July 16, 1990, Ukraine for the first time during the Soviet era loudly declared its right to be independent. It was on this day that the Verkhovna Rada of the Ukrainian SSR adopted the Declaration of State Sovereignty - a document that opened the way to independence. It was a statement to the whole world: we strive to be a free and independent state. Of the 384 deputies registered in the hall, 355 people voted "for", 4 voted "against", 1 abstained, and the rest did not participate in the vote.
Among those who supported this historic decision 35 years ago were many residents of the Rivne region. They traveled to Kyiv, wrote appeals, and stood for the idea of a free Ukraine even when it was just a dream.
On the occasion of the state holidays, the Rivne Medical Academy organized an information platform dedicated to the establishment of Ukrainian independence, the role of people from our region in making important state decisions, and the contribution of our compatriots to defending the modern freedom of Ukraine and its people.
Today, more than ever, it is important to remember: independence is not a given, but a daily struggle and a common cause. And only together will we achieve our goal - a strong and free Ukraine!
