Dedicated to the World Nurse's Day, the library of the medical academy organized a book exhibition "A nurse is wisdom and humanity, it is a huge love".

This holiday has been celebrated in Ukraine on the initiative of the Ministry of Health since May 12, 1997. It was on this day, May 12, that Florence Nightingale, the reformer and founder of the sisterhood, the "angel of mercy," as she was later called, was born. The holiday dates back to the middle of the 19th century, during the Crimean War, when Florence and her assistant saved hundreds of lives thanks to selfless efforts. Since then, the highest award for nurses who took part in hostilities is the Florence Nightingale Medal.

"The care of the sick is as much art as painting and sculpture. But what is the difference between work and canvas compared to work on a living organism! The art of care is the highest of the arts. Therefore, the most terrible danger that threatens it is the danger of transformation to the usual craft" - wrote Florence Nightingale.

The profession of a nurse is a symbol of kindness and mercy. After all, this serious mission is within the power of only the most humane and patient of people. And often all responsibility for human life falls on nurses, and their contribution to saving lives during hostilities is invaluable. They, on a level with doctors, save our defenders, risking their own lives.
