Carbohydrates - benefit or harm?

Each topic that our students study can be considered in different ways. Thus, according to the methodological month of Natural and Mathematical disciplines, teachers of the Rivne Medical Academy organized and conducted an integrated lesson on the topic "Carbohydrates", involving students from different departments.

The students were divided into four thematic groups, and each of them investigated "their" side of this complex topic. Historians talked about the discovery of carbohydrates, their role in the development of science and the food industry.

Future laboratory assistants presented materials on diseases associated with impaired carbohydrate metabolism, in particular diabetes mellitus.

Pharmacists delved into the chemical classification of carbohydrates, their role in the composition of medicines and biological action. And the cooks, or students who studied nutritional value, prepared a vivid presentation about the daily consumption of carbohydrates, the benefits of complex and the harm of an excess of simple carbohydrates, adding examples from everyday life.

The event was held in a dynamic format, with discussions, interactives, lively interest and practical chemical experiments. The integration of various disciplines allowed students not only to memorize theoretical material, but also to see its practical value in medicine, pharmacy and everyday life.
