WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT ANTIBIOTICS
Today, the Academy's teachers of pharmaceutical disciplines Oksana Marchuk and Oksana Burban, together with students of the 3rd year of “Pharmacy” department Yana Stanishevska and Yuliia Shramovych and the 2nd year student of “Pharmacy” department Mariia Kovtunovych, held a class dedicated to World Antibiotic Awareness Week (November 18–24).
This is a global WHO initiative aimed at increasing knowledge about the responsible use of antimicrobial drugs and the problem of antibiotic resistance.
During the class, they discussed:
- why antibiotics are losing their effectiveness,
- what consequences antibiotic resistance has for the population and the healthcare system,
- why antibiotics do not work for viral infections,
- how improper use of drugs contributes to the development of resistant strains of bacteria,
- the role of future pharmacists in the rational use of antibiotics and informing the population.
Particular attention was paid to the fact that antibiotics should be used only as prescribed by a doctor, following the recommendations and completing the full course of treatment.
